About Jess

Jess is passionately involved with delivering Te Waipounamu Maori Netball programmes across the South Island and has driven successful Invercargill U18 Rep Programmes for the last 7 years. She has been instrumental for developing many netballers who have transitioned across National Netball League (NNL) and ANZ Franchise level. For the 2019 season, Jess served as the Apprentice Coach for the ANZ Southern Steel before transitioning to Christchurch as the Assistant Coach to the Mainland NNL team before the national lockdown happened due to Covid-19. 

In reflection, Jess prides herself on the values and standards she sets off the court. A theme she believes has helped her transition and evolve her coaching philosophy. Jess focuses on Manaakitanga the process of being respectful and developing "good people" through the process of Sport Performance.

She applies a holistic; hauora approach to working with athletes being mindful of supporting their work, whanau and life balance.  Jess enjoys connecting her culture, work and life experiences with her coaching practice, with the aim of inspiring not only her athletes but people around her. Along with her passion for coaching, Jess Huia is currently working with St Margaret's College (Christchurch) as their Sport Coordinator supporting their Netball programme.
